Players at the U9-10 age group have a great deal of potential, while some players at this age have natural ability, some workers have to learn to train. Our goal is to train the players within this age group in preparation for playing at the Super 8’s (2013 birth year), U9 (2012 birth year) and U10 (2011 birth year) level. With this goal in mind, we will not hold tryouts for players 10U and younger. We do not feel the need to evaluate such young players, as we do not believe in forming “top-elite teams” at these ages.
Great River Soccer Club believes that every player has potential and it is up to us as a club to prepare and develop these players. While we understand that winning is important, we also think that it is better for us to develop creative, independent decision-makers. With this in mind, we have decided to forgo tryouts at this age group and offer something different that is targeted at the players' long term development.
Players will train twice a week during the Fall and Winter. They have 3 options to train and at the end of the training periods, we will create teams to compete in the 2021 Spring-Summer Season. Players will work in an inclusive environment on a curriculum created by GRSC coaches that focuses on how to play the GRSC way. Emphasis will be put on creating independent, creative players who are willing to take risks. Players will work in dribbling, moves to beat a defender, changes of direction, passing and finishing. The emphasis will be on development!
All players born in 2011, 2012 & 2013 that are interested in the Skills Academy training will need to still sign up for the Player Evaluation for their respective age group.
