Why Coach

Coaching is a great way to spend time with your kids and ensure they have a fun soccer experience, at the same time you are also giving back to the community and being a role model for the rest of the team.

Recreational Soccer is all about having fun. We need coaches who can help the kids be kids and play the game of soccer for fun. Coaches are hard to find, especially experienced soccer coaches, but experienced coaches are not needed for rec.  Since rec. is all about fun it doesn't take much to teach a volunteer who has never coached soccer before the basics they need to succeed.

The reason this program is so inexpensive is because it is a volunteer program, and that includes the coaches.  If we don't find enough coaches we may have to increase team size or cut kids, and we don't want to do that. If we continually have issues finding coaches we may have to hire coaches in the future, but then fees would increase dramatically.

What is required

Coaches attend pre-season training to learn about what is needed from them. During the season coaches run practices and games. They must also complete concussion and safe sport training prior to the start of the season.

For practices the coaches have access to the Moti Sports app including training plans and drills, they just need to help the kids complete those drills. With these tools coaches do not need to be skilled at soccer to coach the game. Coaches are responsible for equipment provided by the club throughout the season, and returning that equipment at the end of the season.

During games they are in charge of subing players in and out of the game and attempting, the best they can, to provide equal playing time to all players. They should also try to ensure that players get a chance to try all positions.

Coaches also need to model good sportsmanship and redirect players who have a lapse in sportsmanship.

Who can coach

Not only can Moms and Dads coach their kids, Grandparents, Aunts and Uncles, Adult Siblings and Cousins, retired community members, and those interested in paid coaching or other jobs working with children in the future would all make great coaches.

If parents are unable to volunteer but they know someone else who would love to help coach please ask them, then enter their contact information in the registration or forward it to the Rec. Director.

What do coaches get in return for volunteering

Coaches will get reimbursed for the cost of their child's registration, once they return the team equipment bag. This is limited to one registration per team so co-coaches only receive half their registration fee back.

In addition GRSC offers reimbursement for coach licencing to interested coaches. Click HERE for details on our coach reimbursement policy.
